Hi Guys and Gals, I was using my 500 gb hard drive to watch some videos on my LG tv, i tried to fast forward a programme and everything went black, when i eventually got it dorsum on information technology said I had no files on my hard bulldoze, I continued it to my estimator ( windows seven desktop ) and nothing happened so after some research from your very helpful site I ran disk management and it now shows upwardly equally Deejay 1 with 3 partitions labled as follows ( healthy ( primary partition 465.71 GB ), (healthy (primary segmentation ) 47 MB ) & (New Volume E, healthy (primary partition ) 8 Mb NTFS ) as y'all can see at that place is no letter assigned to the primary partition, when I tried to assign a letter ( again thanks to you guys ) all the options are blanked out. I don't want to format the disk as I have some irreplaceable documentation on information technology, I tried to utilize the Recuva software but as I don't have a alphabetic character assigned to the drive I can't seem to practice that, I tried EaseUS and information technology was recovering a lot of the  files just later a phone call with a friend realised that it wants $69 Dollars for that. Can yous assist me Please. Regards Lindian

You can assign drive messages using diskpart where doing it in the GUI failed. Edit: Run diskpart from an elevated command prompt.

https://www.diskpart.com/diskpart/assign-drive-alphabetic character-4125.html

If diskpart does not piece of work Y'all may exist able to access the drive with a live linux distro. Linux doesn't intendance virtually drive letters as long has the partitioning is healthy. Does whatsoever of the partitions ion the external drive in Deejay Management testify equally RAW?

Use Mint Cinnamon and burn the iso to a DVD. Boot the DVD and look till yous are at the desktop. Click Reckoner. Attach your USB external drive. If linux can mount information technology a File Manager volition open up showing the contents of the drive. Yous can also utilize Rufus with the iso if y'all want a bootable USB flash drive.

Hi JohnC_21. CMD did not show the partition, AOMEI would not allow me to assign a letter, RAW didn't show upwards on Diskpart, all three Partitions are healthy, ran check Sectionalization in AOMEI Advanced setting and all Partitions are good. As for using Mint Cinnamon you lot will accept to run me through it ( If y'all would exist and so kind ) as I am non quite au fait with all this IT Computer Wizardry. Kind regards. Lindian

This will probably be easier using the Windows 10 laptop. Download the iso of Mint Cinnamon on the Windows x calculator or y'all can do it on the Windows 7 reckoner and copy it over to the Windows ten calculator. On the Windows 10 reckoner right click the iso file and select mount. Copy all the files from the mounted iso to a flash drive formatted FAT32. One time all the files are copied click This PC and unmount the DVD drive of the iso by right clicking and selecting squirt.

Attach the USB flash drive and restart or boot the Windows 10 computer. On an HP you would tap F9 to get a boot menu to select the USB flash drive. On a Dell information technology's F12,

When at the Mint Desktop adhere your USB external drive. A file managing director volition open showing the contents if linux can mount the drive. Click Calculator on the desktop of Mint and in the left pane click on the HDD icon which will open up your Windows partition and so you can copy and paste between the USB external drive and internal drive of the laptop.

After copying any data click on the power icon on Mint and select shutdown. Pull the flash bulldoze and kicking Windows. You may need to suit the time in Windows later using the alive linux distro of Mint.

If yous feel more comfortable using your Windows seven calculator then use Rufus with the iso to create a bootable USB flash drive. Attach your flash drive and run Rufus. Select a MBR partition scheme. Leave all boxes as checked. Press select and browse to the iso file. Press Offset. Backup any info on the flash drive equally information technology volition be wiped. Kick your Windows 7 computer. Make sure USB is the first boot device or utilise the boot menu if available.

Mail service #ii has my links for Rufus and Mint.

Did you mount the USB flash bulldoze in WIndows x and re-create the files? If yes and it did not boot so apply Rufus.

Attach your USB wink drive and run Rufus. Select MBR sectionalisation Scheme. Leave all boxes every bit checked. Press Select and browse to the iso file of Mint. Printing Get-go.

This is a Dell computer? And then F12 was the right key to tap at boot. See if using Rufus lets the USB wink drive boot.

Open up Disk Management with ambassador permissions. To do then, select and hold (or right-click) the Showtime button, and then select Disk Management.

In Deejay Management, select and agree (or right-click) the volume for which y'all want to change or add a drive alphabetic character, and so selectChange Drive Letter and Paths.

To change the bulldoze letter, selectModify. To add together a drive letter if the drive doesn't already accept one, selectAdd.

Select the new bulldoze letter, selectOK, and then selectYeah when prompted well-nigh how programs that rely on the drive letter of the alphabet might non run correctly. Thanks

Go ahead and press Yes. I never got that message but as you can see it is legitimate.

https://github.com/pbatard/rufus/issues/945

https://github.com/pbatard/rufus/issues/487

Are you using the latest version of Rufus? iii.x

It could also be an outcome with your Mint iso. Check the SHA 256HASH of your iso with the i on the verification folio of Mint.

You can check the SHA256 HASH in Windows using this utility. When you run it select Options > Hash Types and merely have sha256 checked. Click File > Add File and browse to the Mint Cinnamon iso. Check to brand sure the hash is the aforementioned as the one above. If they are not the same y'all will need to download Mint Cinnamon again.

Or you lot can use Windows x Powershell to check it

No. Yous merely want to attach your USB hard bulldoze now. If linux can mount it you lot will see a USB icon on the desktop and a File Director volition open up showing the files you are looking for.

Edit: It's Very Important to non install linux now. That would cause you lot to have two OS'south on your hard bulldoze. We are only trying to recover files from the USB HDD.

Edit Edit: If the drive does not mount then post back. If it does and so click the Computer icon on the desktop. Click the HDD icon in the left pane to open another File Manager showing your Windows folders. You tin copy and paste between drives.
